5. Gabby was my Congresswoman,

and I drove by the site where she was attacked the night after it happened on my way to somewhere else. The place of the attack was a small U-shaped strip mall shopping center, marked off by lots of yellow police tape and filled with police cars. It was completely quiet, but the flashing lights from every police car told everyone that something terrible had happened there.

Another individual with severe mental problems had managed--all too easily--to get his hands on guns and 30 bullet capacity magazines, and he had taken out his rage against the world out on innocent bystanders. For weeks, he had been reading right-wing postings that apparently filled him with anger, and so he decided to take his rage out on a Democratic Congresswoman and her supporters. His actions would be mimicked by someone in El Paso in 2019, who, after filling up with the bile he read on right win blogs, decided to take his rage out on Latino Americans. Guns and rage are seldom a winning combination.

I was told recently by a therapeutic musician that Giffords was able to relearn to talk by singing. She wasn't able to talk at first and her therapists encouraged her to sing.
