Personally, I think/hope Sanders will drop out soon. But if he doesn't, it will set up an interesting problem. If the DNC is seen as "backing out" of a 12th debate to Bernie's detriment, that could engender some blowback. I hope it does not come to that.

See https://democrats.org/news/dnc-announces-framework-for-the-2020-democratic-presidential-primary-debates/

The DNC is announcing 12 presidential primary debates over the course of the 2020 cycle, with six debates in 2019 and six in 2020.

The first two debates will occur in June and July 2019. After a break in August, there will be one debate per month for the rest of 2019.

The DNC currently plans to hold its last debate in April of 2020. All early-state debates will be held in 2020.

and lots of other references if you google for it, including ones that are much more recent and still refer to a forthcoming 12th debate.

Joe was well ahead when he debated Bernie one-on-one. Bernies supporters were just sure that Joe would never hold up, that' his "dementia" would become clear to everyone, and that Bernie would ride that to the nomination. But that's not what happened. Joe reminded people that he's a very formidable debater in one-on-one situations as Paul Ryan found out.

There's no reason to give Bernie another chance to distort Bidens record. Biden is the nominee, it's over. Bernie is certainly entitled to run his campaign as long as he wants, but we have a clear winner at this point and there's no reason for Biden to keep running the primary when he should be focusing on consolidating the biggest coalition possible and continuing to run against Bernie isn't going to do that.

Only if Biden wants a warm-up session, a sparring partner before taking on the Squatter-in-Chief. Joe's last debate was a command performance. He has continually improved his debating skills, so I'd say whatever he agrees to is okay.

Is it necessary for the sake of the primary? No. The public, the base, the Democratic Party has made their decision: Joe Biden will be our nominee.

It's all over but for the shouting.
