You can talk till you are blue in the Face you will never convince me this was nothing but political.
P.S. Not only did he wait till the day before the primary, he waited till late in the day to run out the clock.

(10,810 posts)It is not going to be better in two months. Fuck them all I am so pissed as I read how Sanders regardless of loss wants to stay in the race to continue the chaos and damage.

(72,412 posts)The article that mentioned the #5 is from last week ... that is how fast things are moving.
This is not about politics. DeWine is doing the right thing.
BTW the real # of confirmed cases in OH as of this AM was 96 a week ago it was zero.
(however we did have cases here ... they just were not confirmed by a test)
Italy went from 3 cases in early Feb. to over 25,000 yesterday.

(3,282 posts)We aren't on an exponential curve that increases by an order of magnitude weekly. There just were and are way more cases than are acknowledged and as we expand testing we are going to find more and more.
We can assume that COVID-19 has been circulating here, largely unmitigated, for the past two months. Without testing almost all mild cases would have been mistaken for common colds while more severe cases could have been mistaken for flu, potentially include some deaths. Deaths by pneumonia in the US during flu season are usually attributed to flu even in the absence of a positive flu test.
Basically, our official numbers are much lower than the actual number of infections out there. We can take that as good news in that the fatality rate of the virus is probably going to end up much lower than the 2% that has been thrown out there. On the downside, there are probably going to be a lot of infections and there's a chance that we've waited too long to start social distancing. Once you get to around 1% of the total population infected, distancing isn't going to be all that effective anymore.

(8,192 posts)There is no significant difference between the information that was available today and what was available a few days ago. The decision may be justified based on public health concerns, but the same concerns should have been evident last week.

(11,476 posts)A Governor defying a court ruling is a damnable precedent to introduce, particularly in turbulent times. Trump has been trashing the rule of law for over 3 years. We don't need anymore of this. And as you said, the timing stinks to high-heaven.

(8,192 posts)There is no good reason to think that the risk will be less anytime between now and the Democratic Convention (July 13-16) and it's entirely possible that the risk will be unchanged between now and the November election. The point of social distancing and "flattening the curve is to spread new cases out over a longer period of time so that our inadequate health system does not become overburdened and forced into a triage situation in which some patients are denied care.

I'm not damning you, I just don't see the logic in assuming your conclusion must be correct.
