How about expanding it instead. Two or three days... to allow for social distancing.

Allow any registered voter to show up and vote on ANY day... but suggest that voters space themselves out based on the day of their birth. If born on the 1st through the 10th... show up on day-1. If born on the 11th-20th... show up on day 2. If born on the 21st-31st... day three.

Lines would be less crowded and congested... voting centers would be less crowded.

Unfortunately, the borrowed spaces used for voting would need to be "returned" to the owner (church/school/community center) and the volunteers at the polling place didn't sign-up for three days.

Maybe this is something that can be put in place for the next epidemic.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Our elections are run by the counties with minimal interference from the state, although the state has the ultimate authority.

NY primaries are subject to Byzantine laws primarily designed to reduce competition.

We have ballot readers that are approaching the end of their lives and positioning them for more than one day at a time in schools, churches, malls, etc is problematic.

Paying election workers $200-300 a day each for several additional days can hurt the county budget big time.

We do not have a working plan for absentee or otherwise non-personal voting. We are really hopelessly behind in that.

It would be nice if this causes the state and counties to wake up, but I don't see it happening any time soon..

I thought NY had a contingency plan for elections that was put in place after Sandy. Or was one discussed and never actually acted on?
