Then they told us Hillary was more dangerous than Trump and would do things no Democratic president would ever do, like start unnecessary wars and not regulate Wall Street. Now they're telling us Biden is going to do things no Democratic president would ever do, like start unnecessary wars and eliminate social safety nets.

(2,427 posts)The other day when Biden did his town hall a Bernie Bro posted something about Biden walking off camera and that he has Alzheimer's he never really walked off camera just turned away and then came back. I responded with you Bernie Bro's sound like Trumpsters and I was attacked by over 20 people. Biden is no different than Trump is mostly what I got. I can't believe they believe that BS?

(478 posts)The hard core Berners can be just as vile as the MAGAs. I've been the target (on twitter) of many of these nuts. You can never have a conversation with them without them calling me names. They usually start the name calling when I give them facts that they can't refute.

Well, I guess that tells you how many
are likely to weigh in to say that angry
directions to conform or else arent going
go over very well.
Bernie supporters are, for the most part, going to cast their votes in November for whoever the nominee becomes.
But that isnt Joes problem.
Joes real problem is going to be
Persuading the rest of America to come along. And its that issue that Bernie supporters recognize is going to be Joes biggest battle.
Good luck with that.

(9,988 posts)And I will say this. Bernie supporters aren't the problem per se.
People who refuse to vote for Biden in November if he's the nominee ARE the problem, regardless of who they supported in the primaries. (I have also heard this from Harris, Warren, Buttigieg supporters.)
ESPECIALLY in a time of crisis, I think people have a moral duty to show up and vote for the candidate whose policies are likeliest to kill a few fewer people than the other one. Voting isn't just a statement FOR your fave - if your fave didn't make it through the primaries, of the two candidates left standing, you have a responsibility to show up and vote AGAINST the worst one. The lives of many of our most vulnerable citizens depend on it. There are many people dead who'd be alive now if Al Gore had won. There are many people dead who'd be alive now if John Kerry had won. There are many people dead who'd be alive now if Hillary Clinton had won. There are many people in danger now who might survive a Biden presidency, but definitely won't survive a Trump second term.

He's been talking this shit since the '60s and has nothing to show for it after over 30 years in Congress.
Nothing. Nada. Not even the respect of his fellow Senators. This is what's leading a "revolution"?

(5,969 posts)For quite some time, he wouldn't even know or say how much his plans would cost. He probably had no idea how to finance those and I go a step further, he probably never believed himself they'd become a reality or that they'd get through Congress.
I saw one of his "explanations" for how to pay for his plans and it was laughable, seemingly making up numbers and oversimplifying things at every step.
For example, he claims to generate or save trillions with supposedly millions of new jobs in the health sector. Those just come out of nowhere. And while I support every effort to fight climate change, the same kind of fantasy and simplified thinking was the case for the 20 million new jobs created by the new green deal. There is just no basis to just simply add up these numbers, even if they were accurate, and treat them as new income and that they come with no cost to other sectors. He's insulting the intelligence of his followers by engaging in his interpretation of Bernie math.

Biden is not getting all these endorsements and votes for nothing.

(42,862 posts)It's all predicated on some sort of Socialist Revolution where the GOP ceases to exist and reasonable or moderate Democrats also cease to exist. That's not going to happen.
There's no backup plan. There's no plan-B. He doesn't compromise or negotiate, we all know that, he and his followers boast about it often. So without a backup plan and lacking the willingness to seek common ground and mutual benefit... and without the ability to accept incremental progress... the status quo remains. Nothing happens.

Sadly, she's addressing people who are acting both irrationally and angry. Otherwise, they wouldn't equate the outcome of a Biden presidency with Trump's. I wouldn't even know how to get through to them because arguments wouldn't work. I hope their numbers are small but for some it's either "I want my pony or the whole world shall burn".

(5,290 posts)systemic societal change, a global psychic realignment, which btw is exactly what is needed for next generations to have a relatively livable world to inhabit. Unless Our Climate Crisis is taken seriously (nothing worthy of labeling a beginning to date) the debts and deficits will be null, mute jokes mocking us for believing their undeserved gravitas was even relevant considering the importance of the next decade. (572 posts)never seen this person anywhere , but bravo. I would say that to whomever wins. I think what Bernie Bros need to be doing is putting all their anger at Donald J Trump and stop making fools of themselves going after the wrong target. Their priorities are in the wrong place. Their anger would be better served going after the maga because their personalities are too similar and would make us on equal footing on the maga nuts. Glad all groups are not like this, just like Bernie real fans are not this bad. There are bad apples in all groups, but this kind of bitterness is worst that what DT is doing to this couple because you are choosing his side instead of the Democratic party. This is one fear I had with Bernie running yet again.Time to put his resources together and help bring Trump down

(154,202 posts)I am tired of sanders and his supporters demanding that we bend a knee and anoint sanders as the nominee. It may be better to simply give up on the 15% who will not vote for any real Democrat and move on
Link to tweet
The problem, according to many Democrats, remains that 15 percent of Sanders supporters say in polling that they would vote for President Trump over Biden. This nugget actually makes the opposite argument: There is nothing that would satisfy some faction of the Sanders coalition that would rather blow up our democracy and reelect Trump. With people so irrational, the best response is to ignore them. They, like the MAGA-hat crowd, are unreachable and cannot be bargained with (e.g., more New Green Deal talk!). So do not try. No more outreach to Sanders, no more promised policy modifications, no more speaking slot at the convention. Enough
This would have some salutary effects.
First, it would make perfectly clear that Biden is not Sanders and not a crazy left-winger, as Trump would like to paint him in the campaign. Biden makes a sharp distinction between the democratic socialist crowd and his own brand of center-left politics. Since he cannot get the 15 percent of Bernie or Bust Democrats (or independents), he might as well make a strong play for moderate independents and disaffected Republicans. Cutting Sanders off effectively allows Biden to pitch to gettable swing voters, not waste time on unattainable Bernie Bros.
Second, freezing out Sanders will make governance in a Biden administration much easier and more cohesive. There will be no debt to be paid to Sanders, no advisers taken on to satisfy Sanders, and no weird and distracting policy initiatives to lead the new administration astray. This would be a center-left administration confident of its own governing agenda and personally cohesive.
Third, it would free up constructive, smart progressive leaders such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) to lead that wing of the party. She has already begun that process, contributing bankruptcy and student loan forgiveness plans to the Biden campaign. With a practical, crafty progressive in the Senate (hopefully in the majority and able to lead on legislation), Biden would be able to broaden his appeal and cultivate allies in the Warren wing of the party.
In other words, shoving Sanders offstage opens up room for party builders and party reformers, putting aside unattainable proposals (e.g., Medicare-for-all) in favor of a smarter, more broadly acceptable agenda. (Biden would not need to fend off a Warren primary challenge, as Barack Obama did with Sanders in 2012.)
The party is never going to make the 15% to 25% of sanders supporters happy. 25% of sanders supporters either voted for trump, voted for a third party candidate like Stein or stayed home

I am tired of trying to appease sanders supporters who are not going to be happy and there are real benefits in moving on and ignoring these voters.
