Cannabis
Related: About this forumAnyone have any experience with the use of medical marijuana (where legal) with pets?
I posted in the Pets Group, but thought I would also post here.
I have a cat with intestinal lymphoma and I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience with the use of medical marijuana in pets. I'm in Texas, so of course it's not legal yet. But I'd still like to know and learn about it hoping that one day we will have access to it.
I am familiar with the two companies who market the hemp capsules for pets. Because of researching those companies, etc., I have a very basic, elementary understanding of CBD and THC. But no real knowledge about any of it.

(15,406 posts)a dear friend told me his Bernese Mountain dog had been diagnosed w/a cancerous tumor. I gave him some of my cannabis oil to try.
He put 1/8 tsp in her food and liberally rubbed it into her huge surgical wound. Her wound totally healed and she is cancer free today. He still doses her.
Neither of us knew how much to dose, so the 1/8 tsp was a guess for large (100 lbs) dog.

(15,501 posts)Yes, the dosage seems to be the missing link in most of this!
I was speaking with a vet (out of state) recently who concurs with continued dosing. She said what they've found is using it as an ointment on tumors outside the body yields great results, but if that action is stopped, the tumor regrows. Their experience has been that after the tumor regrows, starting the ointment again makes it go away.
Of course I am in bass-akwards Texas where Greg Abbott has vowed to vetoe anything legalizing marijuana derivatives (or what HE deems to be that).
I just cannot imagine something that obviously has the potential to help living beings NOT being studied, used to its optimum potential, and at the very least, giving the individual the choice about trying it.
Thanks again!

(3,747 posts)My ex used to blow smoke into the ear of her very old arthritic dog (who had other issues as well) and it was the only thing that would make him eat, as well as helping in other manners. I think it could be very helpful, as it is in humans. Testing would be nice, but I doubt we'll legalize fast enough. Small doses to see how it goes, I guess.
Small doses are a good idea. I had (earlier this year) my roommates dog break into my cabinet and eat two firecrackers. There was enough in there to knock me flat, and he ate them both. He was super chill for about 30 minutes, and then it wasn't good after. I felt terrible for him. Thankfully he was just fine because it's weed, but still. Pets and cannabis are something to be very careful around (which it certainly seems you are doing).

(602 posts)She's a vet at Colorado State who's been researching this for awhile. Here's one article by her, but you can find others via google that might be more relevant to your specific situation:
