Related: About this forumMy RSO arrived, today
I've read so much about how great it is for sleep so I'm really hoping it works, for me. The full spectrum CBD tincture has helped but most nights I'm still lucky to get between 5 and 6 non-continuous hours of sleep. Admittedly, that's an improvement over the 2 to 4 I was getting before CBD.

(27,255 posts)The science is absolutely fascinating. I wish I had access to it, while I was still working. It would likely have made a massive difference in my health - mental, emotional and physical. It's great to not feel like my brain contains a hyperactive rodent running on a hamster wheel of rehashed thoughts, all day and night.

I'm quite the opposite. Doctors don't love me.

(27,255 posts)Here's a quick blurb I found from 'High Times': Rick Simpson Oil or RSO is named after a Canadian medical marijuana activist known for sharing a simple method for extracting oils from cannabis. He was motivated to share his technique after using cannabis oil to cure his own skin cancer.
I know some people will get riled up at his claim about his cure, but I guess it's for others to disprove.

(27,255 posts)The place I use gives me a really great veteran's discount on the RSO.
I saw a really easy method for making THC tincture, called 'Green Dragon'. Basically the same as making the RSO, except no cooking involved. Just let the mixture sit and 'ferment', for lack of a better word, and then strain and put into a dropper bottle.
Maybe once more of our dispensaries get up and running, I'll try doing a little 'cooking' of my own. This start date for recreational sales really came as a shock to a lot of us (and a lot of the shops). All along we were being told that MAYBE sales could start some time late in the first quarter of 2020. Then, I guess somebody spotted a 'loophole' and sales started last Sunday. Right now there are just a few pre-qualified places - only 2 in the Flint area, as of last Sunday - but hopefully more and more get their approval.
The city of Flint has banned recreational sales. The surrounding communities have not. I expect Flint's decision will change.

(27,255 posts)So, I guess it depends on where you are.
I'm still trying to get my head around how the legal inconsistencies, between states, is going to work. I remember when Michigan first passed the legalization, some police official in Indiana pretty much inferred that they would be stopping and searching cars coming out of Michigan, for cannabis. It was probably MOSTLY an empty threat. Now Illinois is set to start recreational sales, starting January 1, so this sheriff's head must be spinning.
A friend of mine flew in, for a visit, from California. She put her THC gummies inside of a bag filled with trail mix, stowed them in her carry on and still worried. I've read articles about people having prescribed products confiscated at airports.

(27,255 posts)We can have up to 12 plants, in Michigan. I am not really interested in smoking so I've been doing lots of research to learn how to turn cannabis into forms I can use to make edibles.

(27,198 posts)And coconut oil and make my own edibles. Lots of cookbooks out there. We did grow our own, but prices so good in Colorado we now buy trim and flower.

(27,255 posts)There's only a few shops open, in the Flint area, and they are the ones who pre-qualified.

(21,711 posts)No combustion, no cartridges. And the bonus is that you can save your vaped weed (called AVB or ABV) and make a tincture out of it with either Everclear or coconut/MCT oil. That's the Golden Dragon. You can use your tincture/infused oil and make gummies or chocolates (or anything else really) with it. That's what I've been doing. I found some cute leaf molds on Ebay. The market has really opened up with legalization becoming widespread.
I like the idea of growing my own, but can't do it for now. Infused oil and butter for cooking is expen$ive here in California! Growing your own would bring the cost of your edibles way down.
Have fun!

(2,550 posts)I have no investment in this small company.
I did buy one, have used it extensively, and find it to produce as advertised.
Capable of making tinctures, butters, oils, salves, dried herb to use as a spice.
Buying CBD online can be risky --> "The FDAs recent warnings on CBD will probably not significantly impact the popularity of these products among older adults. For those who have finally found something effective for treating their aches and pains, they are not likely to give that up so fast.
That said, there is a genuine concern over CBD products that dont match up to the contents on their labels. Counterfeit CBD products are rampant, and when buying CBD, you get what you pay for. Cheaper CBD available on-line can be tempting for older adults who often have limited resources. But these are just the bargains that dont pay off."
--> "Purchasing raw flower in a dispensary is the best way to get exactly the cannabinoid profile for your desired medicine. Sourcing your raw material from a dispensary also assures that the product is tested for contaminants. And because it has undergone the least amount of processing, flower is generally the most economical form of cannabis medicine."

My on-line source is VERY reputable, and without my veteran discount, it would be far less affordable. I stopped at a local shop, that manufactures 'in house', and they spoke very highly of the company I've been using.
That being said, I am looking forward to now having much more in the way of legal resources, and home grown products.
