Oregon Legislature Hates Potheads More Than It Respects Democracy

Someone in the comments section made a great point. That the parts of the state that are exempt should receive no tax revenues.

But this weekend it was announced that the legislature will radically alter that statewide legalization in such a way that half the state of Oregon will still prohibit marijuana.

1. Maybe in our large counties we can refuse to sell alcohol products to those from these counties...

When people get their id's checked to buy booze, if it shows one of those counties that make marijuana illegal, one could also say that as a business in our counties here near Portland, that we also don't feel we should sell them alcohol if they don't want to allow marijuana sales.

3. Actually I was thinking more that this is an opportunity to register young people...

... to vote as Democrats who might not otherwise get politically engaged.

Perhaps this issues can drive them to being registered and will help us get bigger majorities in the state legislature as well as more Democratic voters from Oregon for 2016 races.

And I visited the state legislature a couple of months ago and there might be some efforts soon to follow up on some legislation to follow up on this resolution that I helped get started early on a year ago. This version is a different one that I'd originally submitted, but it follows what I was proposing. Maybe this kind of legislation also could be something to galvanize young people in those parts of the state to help seize control of certain seats from the righties...

Doing this not only would help make the laws even more fair to everyone (instead of the crap that these righties are looking to get imposed on us), but would help reduce the size of our prison population, and as a result SAVE money at the state level too in a proper fashion, which they want so much to do.

They should look to someone that is on their side, someone who has more compassion and would rather see people get help instead of trying to steal their money in taxes.

5. It is the Republicans that lead this fight in eastern Oregon...

... and yes, there are some cowards for Democrats in our state Oregon government that also need weeding out too, but ultimately, it will likely need to be Democrats that change this equation.

I was just thinking that this would help get Bernie Sanders chapters working out there for those that are fed up with both the Republicans and the corporate and other forms of compromising Democrats too. I think young people registering to vote could help this equation ultimately.

If they do, and they could steal a seat or two here and there, you perhaps would get state legislators not willing to compromise on this issue as well as work on other ones that serve the people better than Republicans would there.

And right now third parties don't have much of a chance winning without instant runoff voting, etc. And if you are in Oregon, you'll need to register as a Democrat if you want to help someone like Bernie Sanders to beat Hillary Clinton for the nomination. I do believe that Bernie Sanders and those that support him will help fix a lot of these problems.

I don't think most folks realize the depth of the problem, or the absolute certainly of 400 million Americans who think they can spend their way into prosperity, people who would rather burn the country to the ground than fix it. They tossed Jimmy Carter in the trash for suggesting that we need to grow up and get ourselves in order, and people are, apparently, even less well-informed and more rabidly self-loathing today than they were then.

That, btw, is just the people going to work every day in their cars, the good ones. The ones who are torching the place while smiling and ordering lattes and voting liberally. They provide the arms, and legs, and eyes for our opponents, the few evil bastards who we like to pretend are the real problem.

Regardless of who is elected, about 200 million people need to adopt the frame of mind that they need to invest in order to build the country, not for any personal gain. Like people building dams, or going to war for other's. That is how we built a great country, whether it was on the bones of the indigenous people we murdered, or the slaves we prospered from for nothing, or all the ignorant minimum-wage workers today who give up their lives and their children's futures to serve french fries and make others wealthy, instead of giving up their lives for freedom as we used to ask.

But to make that workable we need a government that is on the side of the people, something that has been rare throughout our history, and certainly hasn't really been seen (without an accompanying spin) for at least 40+ years. In my opinion since about 1920 or so, but my standards are higher.

We may have now built a system in which anyone who gives of themselves today for this country today is a fool. Which doesn't mean time to quit, but certainly to rethink just doing the same old things.

...to get those idiots out of the Oregon legislature. You can be elected as young as age 25, right?

That's going to be the primary method of getting good stuff passed: get those older, entrenched assholes out of there.

Doesn't happen overnight, but it has to start sometime.
