Minnesota Lynx sharpshooter is latest WNBA star to join Unrivaled Basketball League

Kayla McBride is the latest addition to Unrivaled, a brand-new three-on-three women’s professional basketball league slated to begin in January and run throughout the WNBA offseason.

McBride is a four-time All-Star and one of the league’s best three-point shooters — she’s been a wildly consistent scorer throughout her 11-year WNBA career, and has never averaged below double-digit points. This season, she’s averaging 16.4 points and 3.4 assists per game, and is shooting 42.7% from beyond the arc as a member of the Minnesota Lynx.

Unrivaled, founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, is player-owned league during the WNBA offseason that will have a minimum salary of $100,000. Games will be played three nights a week, and the league will be made up of six teams with five players each. There’s also a one-on-one tournament, with the winner earning a prize of at least $250,000, according to Collier.

With McBride’s addition being announced on Wednesday, the list of Unrivaled basketball players has grown to include:

Breanna Stewart (Liberty)
Napheesa Collier (Lynx)
Arike Ogunbowale (Wings)
Chelsea Gray (Aces)
Jewell Loyd (Storm)
Kelsey Plum (Aces)
Rhyne Howard (Dream)
Kahleah Copper (Mercury)
Jackie Young (Aces)
Angel Reese (Sky)
Dearica Hamby (Sparks)
Kayla McBride (Lynx)

Probably an attractive way to add to yearly earnings without going overseas for 5 months a year.
