Problems with dementia facilities -- idiocy or greed?

Probably some of both, but this paragraph really highlights the idiocy part. Holy cow! Talk about bad planning!

The other problems? Officials at B’nai Brith say the monthly charge — $7,500 — was too high. Then there were issues with the home. For example, none of the washrooms are wheelchair accessible. All residents must be able bodied, something that in hindsight was a mistake, officials say.


The monthly charge is well below some of the places we looked at in California and Washington, but it's definitely beyond what most people in Toronto would expect to pay. For example, there's an amazing dementia facility in downtown Toronto -- albeit, with a long waiting list -- where a private room with view is less than $2500 all-inclusive.
