Locals named ‘Kentucky Appalachian Heroes’
September 10. 2014

CENTRAL APPALACHIA — The Appalachian Hero Award is presented to an individual or organization who currently resides or works in the region and who has made a substantial contribution to social justice in Central Appalachia on “Our Journey toward Justice.”

Appalachian Community Fund (ACF) is proud and pleased to announce that Bennie Massey and Stanley Sturgill have been chosen for the Appalachian Community Fund’s 2014 Kentucky Appalachian Hero Award.

Massey and Sturgill will be honored on Friday at the Eastern Kentucky Social Club in Lynch.

Bennie Massey has been chosen for this award for his community leadership addressing issues in Harlan County....

They are true Appalachian Heroes. Their bravery and hard work to protect their communities is an example for all of us.
