A good step in the right direction. The 10 billion will kickstart the initiative, which could grow via investment by private industry. These are the kinds of programs in which our country should be investing, not war.

Locals visit White House to explore rural economic opportunities

Two Athens County development leaders were in Washington D.C. this past week for the announcement of a $10 billion initiative to promote rural economic development.
The U.S. Rural Infrastructure Opportunity Fund is designed to grow local economies by increasing access to capital for infrastructure projects and speeding up the process of infrastructure improvements.
Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth President John Molinaro and Rural Action CEO Michelle Decker went to the White House Wednesday for a meeting of the White House Rural Council. Approximately 80 people were invited to attend.
The next day they participated in the first-ever White House Rural Opportunity Investment Conference. The conference brought together business and financial community leaders, federal government officials, rural development experts, and others to promote investment opportunities in America's rural areas....
