On this day, May 16, 1905, Henry Fonda was born.

He was born the day after Joseph Cotten was born.

This clip is from what I sometimes think is the best movie ever made. When Henry Fonda was asked, of all the roles he had played, what was his favorite, he said this one.

The version that's on TV is awful. It was converted to digital early on and thus at a low rate. Someone should reconvert it using current technology.

I saw this when it was first released in theaters before it was pulled and cut to ribbons. My jaw was on the floor after the opening credits alone, I still remember thinking Jack Elam was going to shoot that damn fly!

The director (Segrio Leone) is somehow able to make the slow pacing work so well and I think the music by Ennio Morricone helps make this a masterpiece. Most directors would have made a shorter film. Plus, I still have a crush on Claudia Cardinale.
