Volvo have made it possible with fuel cells powered by hydrogen, and during this summer they started to test a new line of trucks using this technology.
Volvo Trucks is beginning series production of the electric versions of the company’s most important product range, its heavy-duty trucks: Volvo FH, Volvo FM and Volvo FMX. These trucks can operate at a total weight of 44 tons and the three models represent around two-thirds of the company’s sales.
We have been developing this technology for some years now, and it feels great to see the first trucks successfully running on the test track,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks division.
“The combination of battery electric and fuel cell electric will enable our customers to completely eliminate CO2 exhaust emissions from their trucks, no matter transport assignments. The fuel cell electric trucks will have an operational range comparable to many diesel trucks—up to 600 miles (1,000 km)—and a refueling time of less than 15 minutes. The total weight can be around 65 tons or even higher, and the two fuel cells have the capacity to generate 300 kW of electricity onboard.

Performance Team, a Maersk unit, will use the VNR Electric tractors for drayage and local shipping operations at the Southern California port complex and distribution center network.
The motor carrier already has some electric VNRs on order. The latest order will bring its Volvo electric truck fleet up to 126 vehicles.
“Our customers are looking for tangible actions on sustainable supply chains ... said Vincent Clerc, chief executive of Ocean & Logistics at A.P. Moller – Maersk. He said the order is part of the shipping company’s initial move to reach net-zero carbon emissions in its global operations.
“These investments in our North America network will generate valuable experience for the continued journey towards similar customer offerings across the globe,” Clerc said.
Performance expects to begin using the trucks over the next several months.

The slow creep period is over, and smart farriers are learning how to change oil and fix carburetors. 
EVs are projected to be more than 50% of car sales by 2030, but how many'll want gas 5 years from now? We would have switched over before this if we were still working.

I remember coal being delivered to an apartment that I lived in as a kid. The truck would dump the coal
on the street, and then a workman would shovel the coal into a basement to heat the furnace. ...
....hard to imagine ....................ain't it ?.............
....well that is what happened in early 50s..
to the point where anyone who tries even a little has no problem.
I'm even experienced enough from all the revolutions during my life to know very well how what was normal just 10 years ago can quickly come to feel more like something from the '50s.
And compared to what the enormous growth of wealth has meant for today, even outrageously maldistributed as it is, I remember how relatively "poor" typical families were in the 1950s. It's not that Ozzie and Harriet felt poor then or were.
But today's typical homeowner would certainly take one glance and refuse to shovel coal into a basement furnace, much less haul it to the basement, or allow the mess of deliveries. We'd arrange to be elsewhere until a modern system (push spot on pad) was installed or head off to a big box store for several $20 electrical space heaters to serve until it was. Then we'd get rid of the space heaters that '50s people would have paid a lot more for and saved to pass on to kids or grandkids.
