I got the annual update from my health insurance
I am covered with survivor benefits from my late husband's job. It looks like my monthly fee will be half what it was last year.
I'm grateful I have this coverage, especially hearing what others have to pay, fees, out-of-pocket, prescriptions and deductibles.

(52,211 posts)are far luckier than those who never married. My friends and relatives have no idea how much more I have had to pay for my own insurance (which I couldn't get before the ACA) unless I was employed but I was too sick to be employed full time. I paid more out of pocket for insurance than my $1,200 monthly income. My insurance was $1,500 per month!!!!!!!
I did the math and I paid $150,000 out of pocket for insurance and health care over the course of my life with and without insurance. None of my family and friends who have/had spouses with insurance really understood this horrible, unfair practice. Being single or married should not be a factor in receiving health care in the US. The same goes with having to be employed to get health insurance. The whole system is fucked up!!!!! When anyone complains to me about not getting insurance due to spousal issues I get pissed off really fast.

(18,864 posts)I was no healthier married or unmarried. The insurance covered the costs of my husband's cancer treatment. I was glad he was covered, and that I have the same coverage. I worked too, but during a time that spouses could sign up for the insurance that had the best coverage for the price. So mine or his.
