DU Community Help
Related: About this forumAnyone else getting "403 Forbidden" errors when posting or editing?
I've had this happen today on several threads / posts, and I've tried it with two accounts and on multiple browsers - Firefox, Chrome and Edge. Does anyone have any solutions? I have e-mailed the admins about it.

(103,616 posts)I've been trying to preview this week's edition and I can't seem to get past the 403 screen no matter what I do.

Between my phone, my tablet, my computer and whatever DU does with the electrons it runs into, it just didn't seem worth worrying about.

(22,737 posts)I've been experiencing the issue myself. The good news is that the firewall adapts over time so hopefully you won't run into the errors for much longer. I haven't had the problem today.

(2,840 posts)if this works, can you explain what 'adapts'? are you saying we each will get a temporary period of time where we face 403s then it resolves?

(8,196 posts)I was lucky that I got wise after the 403 error showed up a few times and lost me the long post I was drafting, and copied it to my clipboard.
I tried logging out and logging in, but I'm still unable to start an OP on the United Kingdom Group at time of writing (I'm also wondering whether I'm able to reply to posts at the moment - we'll see if this gets through!).

(8,196 posts)As a workaround, I tried posting a "dummy" OP - just a full point in the subject line - which went through OK. Then I tried to edit my post to add the text I wanted to appear, and got the 403 Forbidden message instead.
I reset my router to refresh my IP address (I'm in the UK) in case the old one was triggering the firewall filter, but it made no difference.
Are you going to do anything to fix this, or is it just a question of your - and our - waiting and hoping it fixes itself? It's very frustrating indeed.

(228,111 posts)It previously happened when the admins were doing maintenance here, but this was very late at night. Good idea to alert the admins, thanks!

I can post responses, but cannot create a thread.

(11,532 posts)I had posted several times this morning and now all of a sudden I'm getting a 403. It's very frustrating. WTF? I use Vivaldi, a derivative of Opera, and this is the first time I've had the problem.

(147,234 posts)whether it's an OP or a reply. Editing previous large OPs or replies (pre-Nov. 4 - the last big one I was able to edit) will generate a guaranteed 403 and posting large OPs and/or replies will also generate one.
Not sure what the number-of-characters (or perhaps actual post size in KB/MB) cut-off limit is but aside from random occurrences creating new posts that don't fit that "large" criteria, my other posts haven't been impacted.

(228,111 posts)I tried starting over 4 or 5 times, but kept getting the same error.
BumRushDaShow
(147,234 posts)is to kill that session and create a new reply with the same content and it seems to "go".
It's like the session that generated the 403 (even with something that was "short" ) got interrupted/corrupted or something and will forever give the error, so I just close it and do a new reply.

(228,111 posts)I even changed what I said, but that didn't work, either. So I finally gave up and tried again a couple of hours later and it worked.

(147,234 posts)Hopefully Elad can comb through and see if there is anything that can help. At least I haven't seen anymore Error 520s or Error 524s like this past spring.
Rhiannon12866
(228,111 posts)And I also got one of those 520 errors the night I got all the 403s.
BumRushDaShow
(147,234 posts)before you could try again. The 520s are Cloudflare errors (I think the hosting site).

(147,234 posts)I have maybe had a handful the entire time I've been on DU. I've seen others who constantly get them though.
Rhiannon12866
(228,111 posts)So I broke them up into shorter posts and wasn't getting them anymore. But tonight they're back, finally gave up on a short reply I tried 4 or 5 times that was only 2 lines. So I'm still getting them.

(55,063 posts)I'm on MIRT and a host and it is very frustrating. If I only type something in the 'reply title' it goes through but if I add anything in the body I get the 403 error.
