Cowardly Americans Tremble In Fear While A Courageous Nun Defends Women

(Gotta love that title)

[IMG][/IMG]

It is getting frustrating to see yet another abominable Republican attack on women’s reproductive rights without any acknowledgment that it is a concerted religious effort to dominate and control American women and nothing else. It is true that it is a uniquely American unwritten cardinal sin to utter one negative word about Christian extremists imposing their “religious liberty” on Americans, but for dog’s sake the time to stand up for women and against theocratic assaults on their rights is long past. There are, allegedly, “good Christians’ in the population and they certainly outnumber the fanatical evangelical control freaks, but except for one Catholic nun, they are silent cowards.

For the record, again, there is nothing in the U.S. Constitution regarding enforcing religious edicts for the sake of a religion, and yet Republicans are wasting more taxpayer time and money forcing religion down the throats of Americans with no pushback against theocracy. Republicans, the Koch brothers, and the evangelical movement claim that taking control of women, and their reproductive health, is a moral issue their god has given them unquestioned moral authority to enforce, but according to a Catholic Benedictine nun, Sister Joan Chittister, O.S.B., there is nothing ‘moral’ about pro-life Republicans.

Sister Joan said, “I do not believe that just because you’re opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don’t? Because you don’t want any money to go there. That’s not pro-life. That’s pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is.”

Although the Sister is spot on that so-called pro-life Republicans are only ‘pro-birth,’ she failed to elucidate what their real motivation is in opposing any form of birth control; abject male control and subjugation of women. Sister Chittister is right about one thing though, pro-life Republicans, the Koch brothers, and so-called pro-life Christians lack any sense of morality whatsoever, and worse, Americans are silent as they waste taxpayer time and money attempting to legislate religion according to a bastardized form of Christianity instead of doing the job they are paid for. As a reminder to Republicans, Congress is tasked with “The Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the general Welfare of the United States.” As an aside, when Founding Father George Washington was asked exactly whose “general welfare” taxes, duties, imposts, and excises were to provide for, he said “the people’s welfare.”

Pro-birth, Anti-Baby

say it over and over again. I'd love to see lots and lots of ads pushing this meme during election time. It is so true and so accurate in showing the hypocricy of the Repugs. They don't give a shit about life, they just want political positions that bring out the base.

... will the psychiatric community grow a pair and confirm what everyone with an IQ above room temperature already knows:

WE ARE RULED BY BLOODTHIRSTY PSYCHOPATHS WITH THE MORAL COMPASSES OF REPTILES!

And by "ruled," I am not necessarily referring to elected officials, though many certainly qualify. Isn't that right, Cheney?

No, I am referring to the corporate entities that rule our lives. Or, more accurately, the leaders of corporate entities who are irredeemably evil down to their DNA, and have zero concern for the harm their malicious depredations do to others.

But they cover their malevolent asses very effectively, and keep the Great Unwashed cowed and afraid through a multitude of intimidation tactics, like demonizing women and minorities such as gays and Black people, and of course, giving police a license to kill people for no reason. Or for the crime of being Black. And let's not forget civil forfeiture, which lets cops rob you even if you haven't been charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one.

The warp and weave of corporatism co-opts and exploits all of these malignant perversions of the social contract, including the diseased lies of the Religious Right and its jihad against women's rights, but it seems no one cares enough to DO anything about it. Like voting Republicans out of office.

But the truth was he cared little for the people. He helped institute a Congress where only white men of property could vote and even gave them more votes for the number of slaves held. You need to quit drinking the kool-aid and read "The Peoples History of America", which clearly shows the oppression and evil that has been done in the name of big business for hundreds of years. We must fight that everyday, and if you were really so aware of what has happened historically in this country and around the world with the greedy class grinding the face of the needy class, you might think about your Bible telling you that you cannot serve two masters and see why we support Bernie. So while your desires to support women are very valid, do not forget that as a Christian you are also to support the poor and the poor certainly does not include the bankers, Corporate CEOs, and Wall Street donors.

Are you trying to make a Bernie point? BTW, I'm not religious at all, much less a "Christian". Why would anybody worship George Washington? I read "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn about once a year--is that the book you are referring to?

This group has both Hillary and Bernie supporters in it, so far we've avoided hurting each other's feelings, no matter how passionately we might feel about our candidate of choice.

A woman's right to choose is an absolute human right, to take it away, or to attempt to take it away is an act of heinous violence.

True that.

I went yesterday, Lake had a very good vibe. It really does attract a beautiful mix of people, I saw a group of women in Burka's walking together, another group of women in beautiful Sari's the next day, I see Goths, Hip-Hop skateboarders, Steampunk attire-- you name it. It was blessedly free of disreputable drunken characters with tinsel covered bikes carrying a tinsel covered tambourine being all political!

And amen to ism...passing laws to restrict or obstruct women's right to free choice is an "act of heinous violence."
