The misguided petition to remove Anita Sarkeesian from Mirror’s Edge

There’s a great big petition on the internet right now – along with a couple of frankly godawful videos – calling for Anita Sarkeesian to be wrested from the development team for the Mirror’s Edge sequel. As of right now, there are nearly 40 000 signatures on the thing. That’s 40 000 people who’ve angrily signed a petition, without doing the most rudimentary fact checking.

Here’s what the petition calls for:

We the undersigned are presenting our names in solidarity against the decision of EA Games and DICE to include Anita Sarkeesian in any aspect of the game development of Mirror’s Edge 2. Our reasoning follows as thus:

That is a heck of a lot of anger, directed at something that’s just untrue. Here’s the rub: Anita Sarkeesian hasn’t been hired by EA to develop Mirror’s Edge. The whole thing stems from a user blog on Destructoid, that’s based entirely around hearsay. From two and a half years ago. Before the Mirror’s Edge reboot was even announced.

Warning: the following video from one of the leaders of the drive to get Anita Sarkeesian kicked off the Mirror's Edge project she is not even involved in contains extremely stupid misogynistic bullshit. I would normally not post this kind of crap here, but the unintentional humor value makes it necessary to share. 5. Making progress

Have been walking without the walker for a couple of weeks, which was one impotant goal (got a $128 bill for the walker, too, but fortunately I don't have to pay it!). Typing and writing still not great, but that's to be expected. Saw doctor and was told I only have to take my sugar once in the morning, which will make my fingers happy. A1C at the end of Feb, so we'll see what progess has been made (it was 12 when I was admitted). Sugars are <130, and the secular trend has been down (I keep records of this stuff). And I've lost about 5 lbs since admission thanks to diet and exercise changes. Now for the next 75.
