I was IMing with a friend recently about a guy she has an unrequited crush on. She was absolutely smitten, but thoroughly convinced that he would have nothing to do with her.
When I asked her why, she heaved a heavy Internet *SIIIIIIGH* and said, Ugh, well he only dates Asian girls. Youre so lucky youre Asian!
All right.
I think now is an appropriate time to discuss exactly how lucky we Asian women can be in the dating world.
I am proud to be an Asian woman and to look the way that I do. It took a while to get here since nobody on The OC or One Tree Hill looked like me when I was growing up, but I am finally happy with the way that I look.

(42,436 posts)I guess given that Asian women come from cultures so diverse one can only call it racism. I work with Korean women who were adopted and raisd in America, but its their appearance they're judged by. I know Japenese women who in no way fit the stereotype that's usually presented (basically the American version of a Geisha) I know Chinese women who are polar opposite of the stereotypes. The same with Fillipina's
If these men are looking for some kind of cultural subservience, they forget they are not part of the culture, usually don't know the culture they don't give where expected only take.
In America its a flat out combo of sexism and racism

I know people have the right to their preferences, but I still think it's weird.
Preferring a certain "type" is common, but not being willing to even give someone outside of that type a chance, is, to me, a little bit shallow.

(42,675 posts)but its a whole different ball game over here in the states, for one thing.. there are more of a variety of Asian women with different Asian cultures and their own backgrounds growing up. After reading the above article, I was surprised by some things and thought to myself, omg..so that's why I always felt this or that.. I have personally experienced this on line.. and didn't know it was just "yellow fever".
