If He's Sexually Aggressive In Bars, It's Not Because He's Drunk

...

The researchers hired and trained 140 young adults to go into bars in the Toronto area and note every incident of aggression they saw. They found that 25 percent of all incidents involved sexual aggression. And 90 percent of the victims of sexual aggression were women being harassed by men.

Almost all of the aggression was physical, with about two-thirds of the aggressors physically touching women without consent. About 17 percent threatened contact. And 9 percent verbally harassed their targets.

...

The researchers also wanted to look into whether unwanted sexual advances were intentional or just a matter of misperception. This study points to the former, Graham says.

...

The fact that men were more likely to take advantage of intoxicated women shows that most of these incidents aren't well-intentioned, Graham says.

Nice to see actual research, though.

Interesting note at the end there, regarding intentionality. Again, not a surprise to those of us who have been trying to be heard on the subject.

rape enablers, sexual harassment apologists, misogynists.

Anyone who cry, "but what about men who don't have social skills, you're making it impossible for them to get laid if you reject the right of men to talk to women anywhere, anytime, about anything, regardless of her stated wishes or clear body language" are ok with breaking women's boundaries, and what is rape and sexual harassment but a refusal to acknowledge that women have the right to set their own boundaries?

For example, anyone who defends the jerk who hit on Rebecca Watson in that elevator is a sexual harassment apologist. There are several here on DU. Jameis Winton/Roman Polanski/MikeTyson defenders? Rape enablers.

Which the hate-groups MRA's appropriated and twisted into misogyny.

Oh, from here on out I will use the qualifier "hate-group" when referring to MRA's

Anyone who defends a child molester, and anyone who is more concerned about the minuscule number of false accusations than the horrendous number of actual victims of harassment, molestation, and rape, should be banned from DU.

Take away his cover for not facing trial - as long as they do not do that, they are enabling rape culture.

state what you suggest. for legal reasons, or because ??? and since it has been stated so many times, if people do not hold onto the legal conversation, yet insist it be done, when it cannot be done (not suggesting you cause i do not know what you know), then that is a part also.

i really do not remember exactly what it is. i know it is a game though, whatever it be to feed an egomaniac. someone else may have the answer.

When he was young he was a hard partier, and so were all his friends, female and male. I love to hear him say "those assholes are full of shit" --at the same time--since that behavior is alien to him personally, she gets this funny look on his face-- a mixture of disgust and confusion, "why would anybody DO that?"

"I'm going get 'lucky' tonight" -- ever see "Death Proof" by Tarantino? It's a serial killer movie, but he tosses in dialogue with two minor characters discussing the precise method they're going to try women they're drinking with drunk and them laid.

Tarantino is no feminist, but as a director he does toss little tidbits of common behavior in his movies.
