Middle aged people hitting on teenagers

So, apparently, this haopened:

http://gawker.com/james-franco-tried-to-hook-up-with-a-17-year-old-on-ins-1557491436

And it just made me wonder - WTF? I can't ever remember being sexually attracted to a teenager once I was in my 20's. I don't know any other middle-aged women who can say they ever considered anything like that remotely possible either. I remember men in their 20's hitting on me and my friends when we were teens and it was always, always, every single time, creepy as fuck (however much some of us hid it, trying to 'be cool', at the time - the truth always came out later, once we were alone with each other, just us girls, once we felt safe).

Younger men, sure twenty-somethings are a far cry from teens though.

I gotta say I'm highly impressed by young women who talk. When a dude says don't tell - you should probably tell.

when I was a kid, hoping to find some coed so trashed she was willing to "let him drive her home."

Yeah, it was creepy as hell and I was always vaguely nauseated when some old dude would hit on me. I reacted rather badly as I shot them down, I'm afraid, not much tact at 18.

I finally found a place that combined college bar with gay bar and the old panty sniffers were terrified of gay men and stayed away.

I regularly post over on a fiber artist board where people range from 18-80s and everybody talks about shit like that off topic and we all swear like muleskinners. The experience of being completely creeped out when we were young by old men on the prowl is universal for those of us who weren't trying to find money to marry.

'Yeah, look at me, I'm all grown up and sexy.' ... but the actual emotion buried under the fronting was fear. Fear and just feeling creeped out.

I higly doubt it. Tact is for people that deserve it, and creepy old men hitting on teenagers need to be told "No!" in no uncertain terms.

For an old man to be sexually attracted without being considered a creep.

They be confused.

Even in states with Romeo and Juliet laws, if you are 30+, it is illegal for you to have sex with someone under the age of consent. Period. And that is how it should be.

For every rare tale of a couple who found each other when one of them was 14 and they stayed together despite the large age difference, there are 100, 1000 stories of teenagers who later in life realize that they felt pressured, dirty, or uneasy for having sex with a partner that much older, not to mention realize what impact it has had on their later relationships. Very much like the (trigger warning!) video bostonbean recently posted in HoF which encapsulates perfectly why there is an age of consent, and why it should be upheld.

In Norway, the age of consent is 16, and that is ok, I believe, simply because Norway actually has a comprehensive sex education integrated into the school subjects. In the US, where so many have inadequate or non-existent sex education the age of consent should stay 18.

Age of consent is 16 in about half of the states in the US.

You are of course correct that the various Romeo and Juliet type exceptions of the age of consent wouldn't apply to anyone in their thirties.

I hang out at soe blind item sites. Google blind item Franco. Look for items by a man named entylawyer. No one sues him because he tells the truth.

This is standard operating procedure by Franco - he's a filthy pig. Disgusting. Right up there with Kirk Douglas as far as I'm concerned.

And I'm friends with an entertainment attorney in Hollywood who has a bit of fame around himself due to a reality tv adventure. Her sister is ready and willing to take the lawsuit from his not very nice son son either when he dies. Just remember - when he dies and everyone talks about what a great liberal he was - that man HATES women. Not too keen on the black folk either. My husband is friends a black musician - his parents (mixed race couple) had their run in with the bastard 50 years ago.

even as a kid, before i knew anything about the man, i never liked him cause of his eyes. his eyes, to me, told the story. let me be clear, without knowing. there was never nice, happy, joy, ... right, in his eyes. his eyes always held a mean or a hate or ugly, to me.

i was never a fan of him, simply cause he never felt right.

again. this has nothing to do with his reality, just what i always felt from the man.

when I was a teenager. I've always thought women in their 40's were more attractive. Now that I'm in my 50's, I still think women in their 40's are attractive. Kids are not sexually attractive. They're not supposed to be. I believe this is throughout the animal kingdom.

I like your line, "When a dude says don't tell - you should probably tell". That is sooo true!

very awkward about it, like she was just a child. My instincts were totally against asking her out.

I think at that young age, a difference of seven years seems like a whole 'nother generation.

My sister went through a lifetime of abuse by dating men in their '20s when she was a teen. She was terribly abused by them.

With age comes wisdom, hopefully.

Exactly. Many men in their twenties who date teenagers do abuse these young women, intentionally exploiting their lack of experience.

until her forties when she met a decent man. But it took a lot of therapy to undo the harm that older men caused her. Yes, including rape and a subsequent abortion at age 16.

When my dad found out about this, he nearly killed the young man with his bare hands. But that was the ' 60s and rape was just boys being boys. It was never even reported, although my dad was arrested for assault and battery.
