Regarding having to explain objectification a million times

We have had plenty of discussions about objectification on this site. We've had videos and clearly articulated explanations. That some people continue to make comments about feminists wanting to "control what women wear" or not believing men can find a woman both attractive and intelligent means they are deliberately disrupting threads on gender issues. I say we stop feeding them and just ignore them. There are only a few possible explanations for that behavior: they willfully misrepresent and trivialize arguments; they don't care enough about women's rights and the views of hundreds of DUers to bother trying to understand; they lack the intellectual capacity to understand; they are right-wing trolls; or a combination of the four. I think the explanation varies from cases to case. Regardless, they aren't worth the energy it takes to argue with them, and I think ignoring them would actually piss them off more than anything.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

without using the ignore feature so we don't exempt ourselves from their juries.

put it on the side of your plate and, ignore it.

It is still on your plate, just in case ...

I am now to the point that I just read, laugh and, move on.

As Skinner said, they are doing themselves no favors.

I didn't realize it interfered with juries. I'll take them off. Now I have to that one idiot all the time again.

I ignore a lot of things-- I don't have a problem with it

The ignore function was useful for me. I've been baited into too many pointless arguments with people whose only interest is personal animus. It's boring and waste of energy.

To tell the truth it's the grandstanding ones I can't stand. There are several. The snarky little shits don't bug me too much.

But my ignore experiment is over.

they started whose sole purpose was to shame and mock a rape survivor, told me all I needed to know about them.

I look at it like they are tag teaming each other to see who can be the lowest common denominator. The thing is when you ignore them, their lies and vitriol will spread. Minority groups will give up on the site. It will become known as white men only DU.

people who are clueless what is up.

that is why often i only step in to put out a fact, or challenge. and that is about it.

then the tag team becomes little but silly.

i agree with you. i do not put any effort to explaining feminism. there is no interest. i have no desire to waste my time. i can do that elsewhere, where it is more effective and useful

but, ultimately, i agree that sometimes, it is important to speak up. not engage. but speak up.

and some threads, meant only to start another fight, a thread of taunts of silliness, .... let it disappear, alone in the silliness.

That was despicable and in a million years I will never understand how such people are still permitted to post here on this democratic (sic) website.

to disrupt or attack, nothing more. so i take it as no more.

i do not invest in discussion.

and some threads are obviously meant to just die an unfulfilled death.

i hear ya.

i was also here with the start of du3. i know that not addressing the ugly hurled at us can effect how we are seen. in some areas, i have to say something to call out the hypocrisy, or lie, or misrepresntation. knowing it will be repeatedly used to effect others duers perception of me.
