The racial, gender, and marital status gaps in politics: A look at the 2012 election results

Notice that Romney's single best demographic is...you guessed it...white men. Followed by white women, but let's be clear...there is a substantial gap between single women (who voted by a 2-to-1 margin for Obama) and married women (who favored Romney by 7 points). Therefore, it can be inferred that much of the explanation for why a majority of white, female voters voted for Romney is because they share the political views of their (white) husbands.

Other conclusions: President Obama would not have won the overall votes of women in 2012 if it were not for the overwhelming support from women belonging to racial and ethnic minorities, as well as the overwhelming support of single women (of all colors). Romney, meanwhile, would not have won a majority of male voters if it were not for the substantial margin that he won from white men.

What else can be inferred here?
