Related: About this forumIf you're a single woman on Valentine's Day
(a straight woman) all you need do is sign on to DU and have a look at GD. That will make you count your blessings in a hurry.
If you have a partner who is a good man or woman, not sexist or not an enabler of sexist men, GD will make you count your blessings in a hurry.
So let's all be grateful for friends, family members, and partners who love and actually like women, who don't reduce women to photoshopped commercial images or "steak and a BJ."
Let's be grateful for ourselves and other women with a political consciousness.
Happy Valentines Day to HOF members and our allies: female, male, straight, and LGBT alike.

(2,159 posts)I have always hated that stupid swimsuit issue. Way back when, I had a really nice figure, but I could never look like those girls. It was depressing.
Hubby still looks, but he's loving and respectful most of the time, so I can't complain. At least he doesn't turn into a slobbering fool the way some men do.

(2,159 posts)Photoshop wasn't in widespread use when I was younger, though. And at the time, I didn't know just how much the photos were manipulated.
All I knew was that I didn't look very good in comparison.

There's no accounting for taste, and liberal Americans are still products of their culture.
Take care!

It's overcast today- heading to the coast to get the keys for a place I've been saving up for for many years, always a dream to live in the same coastal community where we went every summer as children.
Today is "here are your keys" day!

(56,912 posts)Amazes me that some women are excited and willingly reduce their own self to a "Steak and a BJ" taking all comers. You know, they are all pals.
Of course, it is all just a joke. Fun and Games. Good times.
Lighten up, Francis.

I'm grateful for all you excellent ladies and for your eloquence. And now I'm going to celebrate v-day with my gf.

(90,429 posts)i find most guys who laugh at these things to usually be losers and have sexist views .
awoke_in_2003
(34,582 posts)I just happen to enjoy both. I think the joke about it is sexist. It seems to say that the wife is only there to please their husband. I do not agree with that feeling. My wife is my equal, not my sex object. Please do not misunderstand me, I am not laughing at it.
JI7
(90,429 posts)women enjoy sex and good food also.

I really hate this.
Bleh. It's a growth experience. .... I've needed it. Just hate that it seems unending.
