"How can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give himself up individually to a righteous cause. Such a fine, sunny day, and I have to go, but what does my death matter, if through us, thousands of people are awakened and stirred to action?"

(52,568 posts)I hope I would do the same in that position, but I can't be sure I wouldn't just try to make myself invisible.
People like this let me understand what "awe" means.

(4,452 posts)The entire White Rose Society did what they knew needed to be done while knowing the consequences.

(71,713 posts)in a conservative neighborhood here, back in '08. he had had some really disturbing experiences that i heard about from local sources. i stopped and knocked on his door, and we had a great talk, and discovered we had many mutual friends.
he admired the things i was doing at the time, and surprised me a few days later with a gift of a small drawing of a white rose. we discussed what it meant, which i did know. (thanks to a former du'er)
it was probably one of the nicest things anybody ever said about me.
that little dwg hangs just inside my front door still.
