Keep Monsanto Activity Book Out of Elementary Schools

http://forcechange.com/66703/keep-monsanto-activity-book-out-of-elementary-schools/

By Justine Rivard

Target: Secretary of Education Arne Duncan

Goal: Do not support the inclusion of book designed to teach benefits of biotechnology in elementary school curricula

As the public becomes more and more educated about the dangers of genetically modified foods, the outcry against biotechnology giants like Monsanto has grown louder and louder. Facing a future decline in profits, Monsanto has done what any savvy conglomerate would do: begun targeting future generations of consumers.

In partnership with Dow, Bayer Pharmaceuticals and five other major biotech companies, Monsato has released the Biotechnology Basics Activity Book. This 16-page book includes word scrambles, fill-in-the-blank puzzles and matching games that are designed to teach children the “benefits” of biotechnology, despite the recent findings of scientists from all disciplines. Genetically modified foods have been linked to autoimmune diseases, reproductive problems and organ damage, among others. The use of “factory farms” (a side effect of the “higher yield” biotech industry) is causing devastation to family farmers across America and irreparable damage to the environment, and yet the Biotechnology Basics Activity Book proclaims: “…biotechnology is helping to improve the health of the Earth and the people who call it home,” on its very first page.

The inclusion of a teacher’s guide in Monsanto’s activity book suggests that this guide is intended for inclusion into elementary school curricula across the country. The implementation of this book into school programs implies that the information contained within it is true. This is not the case. Our children should not be exposed to the lies of a company unconcerned with the health or well-being of our environment or society and purely driven by their own bottom-line.

to support fraudulent science, using Sprague-Dawley rats allowed to overeat for 2 years.

A scientific analysis of the rat study conducted by Gilles-Eric Séralini et al.

http://www.vib.be/en/news/Documents/20121008_EN_Analyse%20rattenstudie%20S%C3%A9ralini%20et%20al.pdf

. One thing is clear: Séralini et al. have not been able to substantiate in any way
whether genetically modified NK603 maize or Roundup is harmful or not. The only thing that the
study confirms is that Sprague-Dawley rats, like many other laboratory rats, develop relatively
speaking many pathologies and that, as a consequence of this, many of the animals do not reach two
years of age. But we have known this since the 1960s.

Because who would not rather eat an eggplant dipped in pesticides, rather than an eggplant that comes equipped with its own organic pesticide, Bt.

More pesticides and weed killer on my food, please!

Most widely used organic pesticide requires help to kill
