"Don't you think you've had enough time to move on?"

That was the response my dr, err nurse practitioner told me today at my appt.

I feel like 5 years of therapy just tanked. I remember "it's not that big of deal" "what did you do to make him do that?" "What we're you wearing?" And other quips after my assault.

I am asking for a different doctor. Mental health matters and today has been BAD.

To make it worse, it was done on the computer. Only the second time (both computer) that I've met with this person to get my meds straight.

Mental health is just as important as physical and today's visit just slapped me back into reality. No one cares.

I've had enough of YOU and I AM MOVING ON. Good on you to decide to get another doctor. Never, ever let people diminish your feelings like that. No!

And... I wish people realized how much such assaults can affect a life for decades-- how it can impact your decision-making (like not moving to that town or taking that job), and even little decisions like taking a cab can be difficult.

"Just move on"-- that's actually normalizing and enabling the abuser. (I know the NP didn't mean to do that.)

I can't get past the knowledge that most of the abusers and their enablers (which include all those people who don't think this is such a big deal) go along merrily in life without ever caring how difficult assault makes life -- and how brave survivors are just to survive.

I hope you find someone who can help and not hinder you! You deserve better.

I'm not sure if there is a Dr shortage or what, but it seems like the people who need the help and support the most are suffering the most.
