Related: About this forumStrong Women Would Rather Be Alone Than Spend Their Time With Assholes
https://www.higherperspectives.com/strong-time-alone-2640051536.htmlThe primary reason is that high level of inner confidence. Strong women know who they are, and they don't need a man or a relationship to help define that.
Which leads into the second reason strong women will pick being alone over being with a jerk because they aren't afraid of a bit of temporary loneliness.
They know true happiness comes from within, so they don't need to waste their time chasing after someone who can't provide even a modicum of emotional stability.
And this all culminates in the final point strong women know that a relationship isn't supposed to be something to cling to avoid being alone.

I have always felt sorry for people who cannot enjoy their own company - doesn't say much for their character, does it?

(8,513 posts)I don't know if I'm strong, but I do know that I'll never again allow an asshole to invade my life. I enjoy my own company, and absolutely love living alone. I should have done it years earlier.

(12,901 posts)I like living alone. At least my house is always clean. I don't clean up after people.
Don't have to see anything around me I didn't put there. I control the remote, and I manage my time.
I do what I want to do anytime I want to.
Living alone helps me psychologically.
Any clutter in here is my own clutter. I feel safe in my place. It's my fortress of solitude.
I drink straight out of the 2 liter ginger ale bottle and no one complains. I make the food I like.I get my favorite coffee and no one complains.
All assholes will get ejected out of my life the first time they show thier asshole nature and it's obvious what they are.
I have a livid intolerance and hatred of narcissism authoritarianism and psychopathy.
Don't like drama ,clinginess, emotional distance that is neurotic or bullshit.
I have standards and very clear boundaries.
I am very direct.
Violate them your ass is bounced right out the door. No regrets.

(8,395 posts)to my spouse, I will never have another partner. I adore my spouse but he can be emotional and stressed out, because his job is his life.
He treats me well but the freak outs lately are starting to get to me, especially with the isolation of corona.
I lived alone for 13 years before we married and I was fairly content.
I miss that. I lived like you did. I don't regret marrying him at all but it's my last relationship.
He taught me what true unconditional love is and for that I'm grateful.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and kitty!

(12,901 posts)he rented from my mom for a few years and we lived as friends. Than he decided to get a job and became an unreasonable asshole and abusive he is disabled too and he does not respect his own limits so when he works he took his stress out on me. After a week or so I had enough I told him to move out in 30 days or Ill toss him and his shit out. We were tenative on friendship afterwards and he moved back to his parents. We'd visit each other maybe twice a month. One day he came over with a video he wanted to share with me. We were getting along fine a short time until he tried to sell me extasy, I threw him out of my house freindship be damned that day told him to go and never come back. So he has been out of my life since. We knew each other over 10 years. It took me awhile to get used to living alone.

(68,217 posts)Probably because I laughed and rolled my eyes when she told me she was a conservative Christian evangelical.
After twenty-five years with me, she's a raging, secular, gleefully anti-Trump liberal Democrat.

(55 posts)Im 72 and have been living alone for over 25 years. Due to my privilege and lucky circumstances by birth, I am able to live the life I choose.
I live on 2.5 acres in the country in beautiful Oregon with six cats, three big dogs, six goats, two donkeys and three llamas. They are my companions and bring me a lot of love.
I can do whatever I want without compromising with someone else. I can decorate my house in my quirky way and no one cares. I can talk to my animals out loud. I can do a lot or nothing at all
I have a few good friends who keep me company and all are there if I need them.
I enjoy my solitude and my sanctuary. And I am forever grateful. Life is good
