Canada wildfire smoke to spread across the US

Millions of Americans could see hazy skies and worsening air quality over the next few days as smoke from hundreds of wildfires burning across Canada spreads across the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast.

More than 830 wildfires were burning across Canada as of Wednesday, with some of the largest blazes in west-central Ontario sending thick plumes of smoke south into the United States, according to ABC News.

The smoke will first impact the Upper Midwest before expanding east into the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast through Thursday, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Around 100 million people in the U.S. could experience at least some effects, though conditions will vary by location.

The smoke was so thick here yesterday that I thought something local was on fire. Today it only looks like something in the next town over might be burning. I guess that's progress.

Normally, the air here is near crystal with particle counts frequently in the single digits. Yesterday I saw 160ppm reading at one point -which may not be the worst it was, just the worst reading I saw.

The smoke permeated buildings so that I smelled it indoors when I got up in the morning. Could see it in the sky as well.

I wore a mask outdoors, ran an air purifier indoors.

Couple that with 90+ degree temperatures today and tomorrow, and it's gonna be a stay inside day for me.
Note: I'll be 80 yrs old in October.

Additional information: I have a weather station that measures and records a wide variety of information. Normally, on a sunny summer day the level of solar radiation would be well over 800 watts/square meter, but I just saw it at 33 watts/square meter at about 4PM! Also, the UV index is zero, meaning heavy cloud cover.
Actually the sky has a slight orange tint to it now. It's getting worse as the day wears on.
