Find Out How Reliable your Weather Service Report Is

Being a gardener, I spend a good deal of time checking the weather. It looks like this site will tell me how much to trust the weather forecast.

If you go to the link, you will see a map which will tell you how reliable the weather forecasts are for your area. The reliability of weather forecasts depends on the terrain and other factors.

No paywall link to Washington Post story "We mapped weather forecast accuracy across the U.S. Look up your city."

In addition to the map, there are other charts and graphs that weather enthusiasts will enjoy examining.

Please note: this story was originally published in early July. I thought it had been posted, but a check shows it wasn't.

plains, thus we get a wide range of weather from the North or the South). And of course, this isn't counting the weather we get normally when a weather front comes in from the West towards the East, as it usually does).

The pun was not intended.

I love weather, so this site is very interesting.

I am surprised that weather in my area is harder to predict during warm weather. It is true that it has been changing in comparison to when I was young. We get a lot more days in the 90's and triple digit days happen every summer now.

We're not getting enough rain in the low lands nor enough snow in the mountains. I have a weather app that gives a computer simulation of the wind and storms. From what I can see, the Jet Stream splits and is sending most of the rain and snow either north of us or south.

I fear for the future. Our native plants and animals have evolved with and are dependent on cooler weather with more rain and snow.

3. Every one complains about the supposed inaccuracy of forecasting.

I think that most people are poorly informed about the gargantuan amount of work that is needed to create the forecasts.

It looks like the Weather Service is evaluating their level of accuracy.

Our local office of the National Weather Service has a Facebook page which they have been using to communicate with the public when it looks like we're going to have snow or freezing rain. They even do live discussions, usually with a local television station.

I love these folks and have a huge appreciation for their work.

Thank you for posting the link.
