What do we make of this new conceit that

“Jesus was not white”? Does that make us pale-skinned Ashkenasi Jews “not white”? Or did we get whitewashed by living cut off in Polish ghettos for a thousand years? Or should we just ignore it as a piece of thoughtless but well-intentioned new -thinkery?

By working with Yossi Nagar, an Israeli anthropologist who was able to prove that the physical characteristics of the bones of Jews which date back to the time of Jesus have similarities to the bones of contemporary Iraqi Jews, Taylor concluded that Jesus had honey/olive skin, brown eyes and brown or black hair.

But was from the middle east of that time. Chances are very good that he was short, had curly hair, and olive to light brown skin. When most people use the term "white", it is for those people from western Europe. Think English, Irish, Nordic, etc.

You can image search "what did Jesus really look like" and get some pretty interesting representations.

My Italian daughter in law and Greek neighbor would be surprised to hear that.

Ashkenasi Jews are not the descendants of the very people Jesus sprung from?

And white Jesus has more than a little bit of cultural baggage, so brown/black Jesus is a easier sell.
