Just reading the intro to this story, I can imagine the happy people. Their music, food, respect, reverence & their collective Love.
This is the area my father's family originated. There is little known where they were scattered until they moved to the US, via Canada, pre WW2. Some later returned to fight Hitler.
The stories are scant & patched together, so reading this piece in the Atlantic is quite a treasure.
