I'm glad you posted this again because I missed the original OP in GD.

Thanks for speaking up. I resonated with all you said. It is often hard to be a Christian (someone trying very hard to follow Christ) in an atmosphere that has been so poisoned by a noise machine of "Christians" who speak their prejudices and claim them to be Christ's teachings.

I got in trouble in my church about 10 years ago when I said that if we wanted to find Christ, we would find him among the poor and the marginalized, not in a safe and wealthy white suburban church. I included gay people among the marginalized. Honestly, I thought heads would explode.

For your kind words and also sharing your experience. I was raised by liberal parents but in a not so liberal(southern Baptists church). When I rejected that theology I threw the baby out with the bath water and rejected not only Christianity but any and all things spiritual. After my parents died I did a lot of soul searching and after much searching I found a denomination that fulfilled my spiritual needs and affirmed my suspicions that what I had been taught about Jesus in the Baptist church didn't really jibe with what I felt had been hisis message. I wrote what I did in GD because I felt a twisted fundamentalism had not only warped the notion of Christianity in the minds of those on the right but that that misconception informed the veiws of many on the left as.well. I have been very encouraged by the response I have gotten from it, from fellow.Christians as well as those of different faiths and no faith.

God bless you and again, thanks.
