Many Christians are 'almost in despair' over what Trump has done to their faith: evangelical leader
Russell Moore, a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, said in an interview with Semafor recently that many evangelical Christians are secretly sick and tired of expending so much energy defending former President Donald Trump.
Moore said that, at its heart, this weariness comes from trying to reconcile the Bible's instructions for how to behave with the former president's allegedly criminal activities, not to mention his long history of alleged sexual harassment and infidelity.
"Im hearing every day from evangelical Christians who are exhausted and almost in despair over the state of American Christianity," he told the publication. "They know something has gone terribly wrong but they are losing hope that anything could be different."
Moore went on to add that he believes "Trump to be a unique threat, both to American institutions and to the churchs witness."

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

many of us forget that our faith goes with us wherever we may be. this forum is a good example, we can testify what makes us tick in detail which may normally not be allowed in some venues.

(6,479 posts)A good metaphor for understanding the dilemmas faced by evangelicals who helped put and keep tRump in power.
I hope all those christofascists getting worked up to take over the world meet the same fate as the crusaders.
Thanks for the articles and links!

(78 posts)Yes, but I propose that progressive and liberal Christians stand up for their faith, say that we're Christian and pro-choice, pro-environment, feminist, LGBTQ+ celebratory, and value other religions. If we hide, then the evangelicals will represent Christianity by themselves, and all will be lost.
Thanks,

(5 posts)I just joined. I still tend to be a bit right-leaning in certain areas, but I can't count myself as a "conservative Christian" anymore. I've heard of so much abuse in evangelical spaces that I no longer trust male evangelical leaders. If they don't abuse, they support those who do.

(11,013 posts)that claim to be Christians and have the audacity to talk about it out loud. I at least accepted them in the past, now I just flat out dislike and disrespect each and every one of them unless they dare to speak out to the behavior and none of them do. They use it as an excuse to be cruel and nasty and vile.

(11,577 posts)Fuck the evangelicals. They voted for their Mango Messiah twice - even though they knew what he was. They bought into the Christian nationalism bullshit because their pastors told them to. They thought they were going to get someone that was going to ban abortion, gays, and trans people. They got a flaming dumpster fire. It took a liberal, female Episcopalian bishop to open their eyes to what Jesus actually said.
My advice to these evangelicals - if you really want to follow Jesus, go visit an Episcopalian Church this Sunday instead of going to your megachurch.

(7,339 posts)When I was in my early 20's I came to the conclusion that the Catholic Church wasn't fulfilling my spiritual needs. They were into the idea that they were the only true religion, and full of criticism of the various Christian groups, like Baptists, Lutherans, and Episcopals. Not to mention non-christian religions.
The belief was that the only path to God was thru Catholicism.
I felt that their attitude was decidedly not in alignment with the teachings of Jesus, so I left the Catholic Church and never looked back.
I decided to cut out the middleman, and go directly to God. It was the lack of love in the church that lead me to that decision.
So, now we have Christians who are in despair over Trump. Well, how about that!
Trump is a loveless creature, who is pretty much the antithesis of all that Jesus taught. It's taking them long enough to figure that out. His words and actions have screamed lord of darkness for decades.
My recommendation, dump that guy, and go back to basics. Work on replacing all the hate you have embraced, as your religion drifted farther and farther away from spiritual truth, with love as put forth by Jesus.
Get yourselves back on the true path so you can actually stand in the light of God's love.
It's not important which religion you are in, it's how well you live as an expression of all the qualities Jesus taught.
One thing I can say for sure is that Trump ain't gonna lead you anywhere but down deeper and deeper into darkness.
