FOX News Panel: Liberals Are "Worshipping the Environment" Instead of God

FOX News Panel: Liberals Are “Worshipping the Environment” Instead of God
By David Gee, September 22, 2019

Members of a FOX News panel discussing climate change — mocking it, of course — claimed that environmentalists have “forgotten about God” and are “worshiping the environment instead.”

Which is their way of saying God will fix everything, so no need for us to do anything.

The Outnumbered panel was picking on 16-year-old activist Greta Thunberg when conservative pundit Buck Sexton decided to tie environmentalism — climate change, specifically — to a religion. He was backed up by his co-host.

“Climate change is a religious belief for people who think they’re too smart for religion,” Sexton said.

Outnumbered co-host Melissa Francis piggybacked on the religious switcheroo Sexton says liberals are doing with the environment.

“They’ve got Catholic guilt and they’re going to confession,” Francis responded. “But they just have forgotten about God, so they’re worshipping the environment instead,” she added.

No. Just no. Climate change isn’t religion. There’s a key difference between the two: Only one is supported by the evidence. We understand the threat of climate change based on the scientific consensus, which is based on mountains of data. Religion is wishful thinking that relies on hope and tradition.

Emphasis added.

So does this mean that those who stand by 'faith' stand with Faux News?

People can believe whatever the fuck they want.

If people want to be druids, let them be druids.

FUAX is preaching to Christians only with this statement and is Anti-American.

The composition of the Faux audience is very close to 100% Christians of the hateful right-wing variety. Of course Faux is going to run programming that appeals to such people, and that denigrates those who disagree with them.

to a right wing Christian (or Jew or Muslim) who know their holy books, as they are likely to point out that their god(s) made the world and everything in it just for humans. So it is god given right and privilege to consume all the stuff god gave us.

As there is no single objectively “true” religious interpretation of those holy books, their “cornucopia” climate denial interpretation is just as valid as the “stewardship” environmentalist interpretation.

Even worse, their premillennial dispensationalist end times bullshit welcomes climate catastrophe.

They are not Christians, they're charlatans. Beware of false prophets.

Also worshipping the environment that was designed by God (for those who believe) is a sign of respect for all creatures. Acting to protect the environment is a sign of love for God. And since God is love, taking care of all creation is something that is encouraged fully.

You made what could be called an appeal to purity as a way to dismiss relevant criticisms or flaws of your argument.

The are 'christians' because they self identify as 'christians'. Deal with it.

And they are doing exactly what Christians have been doing for thousands of years, which is to say they are labeling those who don’t think as they do heretical.

so depressing. They literally live in another world among other like themselves and are some of the most racist, anti-environment, bigoted people I know. I tried for years to get along with them but it was useless. Nasty towards anyone that doesn't think like them.

By the founders of America. In the Declaration of Independence.

In that phrase by the way, God can be seen as linked but also subordinate to, nature.
