Religion
Related: About this forumWhen it comes to religion, I believe in equal treatment.
I treat all religions the same. I ignore them equally. Gods, too.
I'm a true ecumenical.

Some religions are worse than others.

(147,386 posts)I'm just talking about their supernatural beliefs. As long as they keep those to themselves and don't try to foist them off on me or other innocent people, they can believe whatever stuff they can manage to believe.

If you want to ignore religion as you say, a good start might be to not post constantly about religion.
MineralMan
(147,386 posts)Thanks for offering it, though. Really.
I will never ignore the bad effects caused by religion.

(14,190 posts)and not saying you shouldnt post - just pointing out there is more than one way to obsess on religion.
Im a militant agnostic. I just prefer to ignore it since it has no relevance to me.

(147,386 posts)It's a subject of interest for me. Fortunately, DU has an area set aside for the discussion of religion. I'm glad of that. It's wonderful to have a place where I can make my opinions about religion available for public reading. I'm very gratified that you, and others, take the time to read them and reply to them.
However, I'm not exactly sure what you think my posting proves. Perhaps you can enlighten me. What is your meaning in this reply? Perhaps I'm not smart enough to divine it from your words. Can you clarify?
guillaumeb
(42,649 posts)"to divine it from your words".
Very nice.
MineralMan
(147,386 posts)I love words that have multiple meanings. It's so much fun to use them and have their use noticed.
Gazing into my crystal ball, though, I divine that you will not find this as humorous as I do.

(49,533 posts)Deeply religious people are causing lots of problems.
Understanding and discussing religion are important, don't you think?
Your snide attacks on people who are trying to have a discussion are not needed. Please behave.

(147,386 posts)I'm sure he felt he needed to comment, but had nothing relevant to say. Insults serve nicely at such times. I'm always willing to cut people some slack when they haven't the words they need to object to something. There's a Latin term for one form commonly used when words fail: Tu quoque, I believe it is.
guillaumeb
(42,649 posts)and then judge your own posts by that standard.
trotsky
(49,533 posts)And quite frankly, your tu quoque bullshit is tiring. Your whole shtick is predicated on being so much more tolerant and decent than all of us horrible bigoted fundie atheists, and yet you continually set the tone with your insults and smears.
The only conclusion I can draw from that, is that you behave exactly as you think Christians should. What an ambassador for your religion you are!

(4,192 posts)Dismiss them all out of hand. Simple, neat, complete.
MineralMan
(147,386 posts)I spent a couple of years in my early 20s thinking about all that. Having had a thorough indoctrination into Presbyterianism, I had to learn more about that denomination, and then about other religions of the world. After due consideration and thought, I rejected all belief in supernatural entities, due to their extreme improbability. And if one was false, it stood to reason that all were false.
Und so...here I am, an atheist for half a century.
