Plinking and .22LR

Old news is old news. But has anyone noticed .22LR is starting to make a come back all over the country? I live in a rural town where people hunt, plink, and spend a lot of time outdoors. Needless to say, for several years I rarely found .22LR on the shelves at Walmart. The last two times I've been they've had mountains of it. Plenty of crappy Remington Golden Bullet and Winchester SuperX.

2. Wally World around here has been getting it in at least very recently.

Prices are relatively high...5.5 cents on the GBs and around 9 cents on the SuperX.

4. Aguila.

The stuff works well, never had an issue with it. I think Aguila has had a lot to do with improving the supply of .22lr all over the country.

That's the stuff. I have not had aby problems with it. Workswelll and doesn't cost much. The .22 at the last gun show, the .22 price were very high. I think these guys own a lot of it at pretty high costs.

6. Yup. My theory on the supply of Aguila is that...

it has led to lower costs across the board. Some guy isn't going to make much money selling Thunderbolt or Golden Bullets for .15 cent per or Mini mags for .20...if someone can go and buy Aguila for under .08.

Dicks Sporting Goods, which I'm not a huge fan of but has had a good supply of .22 the last few times I've been in as well.

We have Dick's tooand I am not a fan. I usually shop Academy. Sorry we are losing Sports Authority.

If the gunshow guys are stuck with high cost ammo they can't move, it doesn't bother me. They are at least a part of the high ammo cost problem.

There are also a lot of companies importing European target .22lr ammo. Most people aren't going to pay premium prices for bulk pack ammo when premium ammo is available for the same cost.

Back in the old days people would just plink...nowadays you have these people running around with M&P 15-22s or 10/22s with BX-25s shooting through a brick or more every time they go out shooting. Factor that in with the hoarders, preppers, and gun show re-sellers....it's easy to see why the supply has been so dry.

8. The lack of .22 ammo has delayed my plans to purchase a rifle...

Thinking of purchasing a Savage bolt which got excellent reviews in some publications, and the price was good, too.

12. I bought my Wife a Savage A22 this weekend. It's a semi in .22 WMR.

She can't wait to get it. I have an old Remington .22 from the 30's with iron sights and she's deadly with it at 50 yards. She's going to have a ball with the Magnum.

13. I have decided on a bolt as it approximates my deer rifle. Savage has one in the $250 range.

The old '03 with its out of production ammo would make a faint vibration and no noise (with ear protection) when fired. Had to remember it worked. Neat old rifle. Looks solid state with its forearm cocking plunger, and loating gate in the butt stock. I had to show the guy at the airline counter how it worked. He thought it was cute. The edition I have was made in '05:. First year with a safety!

That plant has been running full blast for the last two years. Lol
Maybe they are catching up on the .22 production lines.

11. I never noticed any shortage.

Although I've heard plenty about it. I have enough 22 lr along with powders, primers, and bullets/shot to keep me and a small community shooting for many many years. I bought supplies when they were cheap and available. I also have over 700 pounds of bulk lead and the moulds to make bullets for any caliber. I advise everyone do the same.
