Long-range forecast where I'll be going has Saturday coming off two days of rainy weather, with hi temps in the 60s, partly cloudy, -10 mph northerlies. Should be excellent on the mesa where I will post up. Quiet walking, too. Earlier, the dove season was a bust due to lack of rain and consequential lack of sunflower crop. But the browse for deer has made a comeback, esp. with the mammoth rains we've had. We have antler restriction in this county, so I may just get a good-size doe.
Nothing like being on a breezy mesa in the fall!

Our area is bucks-only but my zone did have a doe lottery that I put in for. I've seen fewer bucks than in some years here, but we're crawling with does, so maybe they'll bring the boys in. Looking forward to some time in the woods.

(18,318 posts)I saw half a dozen deer within 100 yds, but had no shooting lanes that far out. Heh. The only shot I had available was of a yearling I decided to pass on. But the population seems far better than prior years (i.e., fewer deer), and they are in better shape; one legal buck was checking his scrape under a tree at the edge of a 40 acre oat field. Pretty brazen! Will be out again in December, maybe in Uvalde County
