'Red Dead Redemption 2' will be a massive 105GB download

Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally dropping next month, and PlayStation has revealed some of what's in store with the pre-order launch of its PS4 Pro Bundle. The box refers to a "timed exclusive for 30 days" and mentions online content. We knew PlayStation users were getting some unique content, but this confirms they'll get it ahead of everyone else, too.

The box also suggests the game will support 2-32 players, two more than GTA 5 which still continues to lure people in even though it launched five years ago. And like GTA 5 and GTA Online, Red Dead Redemption will debut a month or so before its online mode, which is fine, considering the PS4 box reveals the game is a massive 105GB to install (possibly due to the 4K version, but this isn't clear), meaning there's a lot to get stuck in to before then.

This will be over 2x bigger than any game I ever downloaded and it won't be from a disc (which is usually faster the update is slow) for me.

1. 'Red Dead Redemption 2' Will Have Players Making "Hundreds of Decisions"

Like the Wild West themes of the game, Red Dead Redemption 2 wants players to feel freedom. And what better way to give a player freedom then to unleash them into a large western world full of hundreds of decisions to make. Well, that appears to be the exact line of thinking of Rockstar Games.

Speaking to the Official PlayStation Magazine, Art Director on the game, Josh Bass, revealed players will make hundreds of decisions -- big and small -- over the course of the game in an attempt to provide a narrative experience that is less linear than previous Rockstar releases.

“While there’s an overarching story, the game is filled with choices for Arthur to make that will allow you to decide what kind of outlaw Arthur is – whether he’s an honorable outlaw or someone less honorable is up to you,” said Bass. “The world will respond to these choices in ways both big and small, and hopefully when players begin to share their experiences they’ll start to realise just how different they are from one another, depending on the hundreds of decisions they made across the course of the game.”

From the sounds of it, not only will player's choices as Arthur define how the character is perceived in their eyes, but the eyes of NPCs in the world, which will in turn impact the game's world at large.

2. Red Dead Redemption 2's Stranger NPC Encounters Can Take Unexpected Turns

From all that we've seen of Red Dead Redemption 2 thus far, it's evident Rockstar Games has crafted a detailed and reactive world to explore in its much anticipated western sequel. Not only will the non-playable characters you encounter snitch on your crimes if they see you engaging in some shady activities, you'll be able to interact with strangers you come across in various other ways, which can have some unexpected consequences.

During our most recent hands-on session with Red Dead Redemption 2, we were traveling leisurely down a dirt path that led to a crossroads. There, we encountered an older gentleman on the side of the road affixing a horseshoe to his horse. As we passed him, the game presented several different interaction prompts, giving us the option to Callout or Antagonize him. We chose to greet him, and in return, he stopped what he was doing and greeted us back.

However, our casual interaction had a completely unintended result. As he was returning our greeting, his horse was suddenly spooked and kicked the old man in the head, killing him instantly. The horse then ran away down the path as we went over to inspect the man's body. Even when Arthur Morgan has the best of intentions, it seems interacting with strangers can turn deadly.

Later in the demo, we encountered a Mexican gunslinger shooting bottles off of a railroad bridge. We approached him, and he revealed that he crossed the border to find the "best marksman in America." The man then challenged us to see who could shoot the most bottles off of the bridge in half a minute, with each of us wagering $5 or $10. We agreed to wager $5, and when the challenge ended, we saw that he has shot one more bottle than we were able to.
