What bird is this? In this week's Sunday LOL Cats, picture #5...

...shows a cute little mom bird and her 2 babies sheltering from the rain inside a flower. Completely charming picture.

I'd love to know what both the bird and the flower are.

Besides the photo overall, I can't think of a hummingbird that has that supercilium and cap, neither in North America nor in the parts of the tropics I've been in. Just for kicks I put it in Merlin, no ID.

We made sure our honeysuckle bush (the smell on a summer night is strong) stayed healthy for them, I saw quite a lot of green chinned ones and a few others.

Most likely the inspiration for the blossom photo. The blossom resembles an Abutilon. There are some photos of Bee Hummingbirds in the back pages of this group too.


The very smallest bird on Earth is the Bee Hummingbird, which can be found in the Zapata. (Cuba)
