Who constantly misstate the severity of injuries and under estimate recovery times.
But that is a topic for a different post. Let's rather talk about Victor Scott II.

Center fielder Vic Scott in 2 minor league season moved up from 29th Cardinal prospect to the 4th.
In 163 pro games (Not including Arizona Winter Ball) he's been PHENOMENAL;
These are his back of the basebll card stats:
Avg.290, 11 homers, 24 doubles, 14 triples, 75 RBIs and 107 stolen bases (in 124 tries).
That would be a pretty good year at any level and he did it going form rookie to Low A to High A to AA over 2 seasons
In the Arizona Fall league he hit .286 with .388 on-base percentage, three homers, two doubles, eight RBIs and 18 stolen bases in 21 attempts over 23 games with the Scottsdale Scorpions
In spring training this year, he's hitting almost .370 has 2 homeruns & a triple while making catchers look silly on the base paths.
And he's catching everything from left center to right center, scouts rate his speed as an 80 - His range is crazy.
Oh yeah, 1 other thing is going on in Spring Training.
That is that Cardinal Outfielders are getting injured (Edmon, Nootbar) or are flat out sucking in one facet of there game.
That would defense for Alec Burlesan and Jordan Walker and hitting for Dylan Carlson.
Quick aside about Dylan Carlson.
He should be a platoon corner outfielder. In his Cardinals tenure he's been a slightly better than average CF glove who cannot hit lefties worth a damn. This spring he isn't hitting anything - His recent "Hot Streak" has brough his average up to .222.
Just a week ago, I didn't think that there was any chance Vic was breaking camp with the big team, now I think he HAS TO

(6,111 posts)I had to throw that one in there being a Reds fan and living near Cincinnati. By the way, we might both agree on one thing- the greatness of Scott Rolen.

(13,417 posts)But I don't know his game. Before my time.
Some folks will bring up Mike Schmidt who I am more familiar with, but he was a better hitter and a slightly worse glove.
Scott was the total package.
And for anyone getting ready to ask, I think prime Rolen was better than prime Arrenado, but so far Nolan's peak seems to be lasting longer than Scot's
Reds were a fun team to watch last year. I like aggresive baseball.
Redleg
(6,111 posts)He did a good job for the Reds, especially in providing some steady leadership for the young team. I think overall he had an excellent career, perhaps even HOF worthy when you consider some of the newer performance indices.
I have great hopes for the Reds this year, as every year.

(13,417 posts)I'm old, but I still believe the old saw that Hustle and D never slump.
With Victor Scott, Mason Wynn and the eventual return of Tommy Edmon, we have the makings of a team that can cause havoc on base

True Dough
(20,086 posts)it appears that Scott is not sticking with the big team.
Scott entered camp with a very low chance of making the Opening Day roster after finishing last season in Double-A. However, he showed plenty of promise with a .316 batting average and four stolen bases over 10 games this spring. The speedy 23-year-old will likely open the season in Triple-A Memphis.

(13,417 posts)Dylan has been better these past 8-9 games, so that's that.
A Better than average glove with a slightly below average bat is the safe choice. Plus. VSII needs to play everyday to develop.
I'm pretty psyched to see him next year - that's no lie
True Dough
(20,086 posts)but L.A., with its huge payroll, is a tough team to keep down.
Good to see Victor Scott get a few hits. Steven Matz wasn't spectacular, but he was good, especially against a potent lineup.
Next up, a visit to San Diego.
