Working in auto assembly plants my whole career, love these articles. Worked in the plant that made the Stanley Steamer, in Tarrytown, NY.

I seem to remember she won it as a prize in some contest. I was 13-14 at the time. My buddies and I thought it was really cool -- particularly when she took it into the river/bay near us. I only saw that a couple of times; saw it go by our house fairly often.

We were already familiar with other amphibious vehicles, particularly DUKWs and such.
