Trump Says He Will Sign Executive Order Giving Army-Navy Football Game an Exclusive TV Window

President Donald Trump says that he plans to sign an executive order giving an exclusive four-hour broadcast television window to the annual Army-Navy football game, citing concerns of encroachment from the nascent College Football Playoff system.

“The Army-Navy Game is one of our Greatest American Traditions — Unmatched Patriotism, Courage, and Honor! This incredible Tradition is now at risk of being pushed aside by more College Playoff Games, and Big TV Money. NOT ANYMORE!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Saturday. “Under my Administration, the second Saturday in December belongs to Army-Navy, and ONLY Army-Navy! I will soon sign a Historic Executive Order securing an EXCLUSIVE 4 hour Broadcast window, so this National Event stands above Commercial Postseason Games. No other Game or Team can violate this Time Slot!!!”

The order, if allowed to go into effect, would be a blow to Disney’s ESPN and Warner Bros. Discovery’s TNT. ESPN has the exclusive rights to the College Football Playoffs through 2031-2032, and has been sublicensing some games to TNT.

It would be a boon, however, to David Ellison’s Paramount, which has the rights to the Army-Navy game on CBS through 2038. CBS has been the exclusive TV home of the game (it also streams on Paramount+) since 1996.

broadcast window." Why continue pretending every insane proclamation made by this imbecile is plausible? Why won't Yahoo! Sports just come out and say "there is no legal mechanism" and "Trump is full of shit"? Stop being stenographers, do your fucking jobs as journalists!

This is beyond stupid. Besides being illegal, it will accomplish absolutely nothing. Everybody interested in watching the Army-Navy game already watches it.

He's only talking about blocking any other football games from airing at the same time .

The game occurred on the same day as other college football matchups, including a bowl game that started just 30 minutes after the Army-Navy kickoff.

That is not true. There was a single bowl game the same day as Army-Navy - The Bucked Up LA Bowl (Boise State vs Washington) but that started at 8:00 PM while Army-Navy started at 3:00 PM. There was apparently an FCS (formerly Division 1-AA) quarterfinal playoff game at 3:30 (Montana vs. South Dakota).

Of course, that game had absolutely no connection to Big TV Money. Trump wants to issue an executive order to stop a "problem" which doesn't even exist.

The FCS and D II-III playoffs have a tight schedule which is a big deal to their fans. My family was all Marshall when they were winning I-AA championships.
