Being a SoCal boy, skating outside on a frozen lake was a bucket list item. So me and some beer league buddies trekked up to Wisconsin for the pond hockey tournament not knowing what we were in for. Our idea of “rookie” level was guys who passed the learn-how-to-skate class and graduated to full pads. Their idea of “rookie” is someone who didn’t get drafted out of juniors. Needless to say we were outmatched but everyone was so cool and friendly and the Labatt’s flowed freely. It was one the funnest things I’ve done so we went back a couple more times.
