of the Wimbledon season. Looked pretty old, needs to just retire. Kinda hard to watch too, she is 43. 🥹

(6,440 posts)Venus Williams is the main reason women are making big money at Wimbledon.
Williams has always seen the big picture for girls and women.
She has had her bad times and her good times and her great times. She is persistent and one of the great role models for girls and women, and actually a role model for boys and men.
A competitive athlete can quit their game or their game can quit them. I just dont see anything sad about Venus today or ever.

(6,440 posts)When people are willing to push the boundaries of what is considered reasonable or possible for the human body, I applaud. What they accomplish in competing, win or lose, helps me and every aging individual (which is everyone) push our boundaries.
I totally applaud Venus Williams and am truly surprised that some felt sad. I saw nobility.

(6,440 posts)I think I can understand your reaction and others. In retrospect I can see that it was humiliating for a champion to lose to a newcomer.
I think when I go back and look at the event that way I feel more empathetic toward Venus too.
