(33,643 posts)The Celtics should be sitting at home right now but for that amazing, split-second follow-up basket as time expired. They choked away a 10 point lead with 4 mins left. They are SO LUCKY to still be playing.
I'm not saying they can't/won't be the first to do it, records are made to be broken. BUT ... though I don't believe in a magical force called 'luck', a bell-shaped curve is still a real thing.
There's a reason it's never happened in all these times, and that's cause 'luck' tends to even out.

(2,971 posts)I've hated the Celtics since Red Auerbach and his disgusting victory cigar.
And they should be all done if Miami had gone to the basket to box out rather tnan stand around when the shot went up.
Note. I did like Bill Russell.

(20,141 posts)But it was on May 29, 2022 -- exactly one year ago today -- that the Celtics eliminated the Heat in Game 7 of the East Finals.
Will history repeat itself?

(69,750 posts)...the Heat looks like they're out of gas.
They got stomped in 2 of those losses and that defensive lapse on that put back is a sign to me that their energy reserves are depleted.

(20,141 posts)I read your assessment this afternoon and I agreed with it. Let's say I put $10 or $25 on the Celtics to win at home tonight. That would have been money down the drain, despite solid logic.

(69,750 posts)While I'm not shocked Miami won, I'm at least surprised.
I definitely am shocked the win was so easy.
As to sports betting, I guess that's why I never gamble! LOL!
True Dough
(20,141 posts)I purchased a legal pro sports gambling ticket. Because followed the National Hockey League closely, I picked three games: two wins and a tie. The latter got me pretty high odds and my $2 bet would pay $51.
Sure enough, all three results came through. I cashed in that ticket the next day with a big smile on my face. I started having delusions of not bothering to go to college. I could make a living off of sports gambling! I could do this!
I proceeded to invest my winnings in more tickets and more tickets. Needless to say, I lost that $51 and then some. I matured and rarely gambled on sports since then.
But the funny coincidence is that I had similar experiences with poker and penny stocks. Got lucky very early on and it gave me a false sense of confidence. Neither of those experiences turned out overly well either (actually, I can hold my own at poker sometimes).

(18 posts)The argument for the Celtics is this: They're the better team, they had decisive wins in Games 4 and 5 and the Heat might have a hard time regrouping after a historic loss in Game 6. Boston's Derrick White became just the second player in NBA history to hit a buzzer beater with his team facing elimination and trailing in the game. Michael Jordan is the other.

(20,141 posts)between the Heat and the Nuggets for all the marbles?

(69,750 posts)I think the zone is problematic against Denver.
And, I don't see what the Heat have against Jokic.
Of course my prognostication ability has just shown itself to be suspect.
awesomerwb1
(4,544 posts)but I wouldn't against Denver either. Normally would say slight advantage Denver (beat the Heat both games in regular season + Jokic)
but I honestly do not know.

(5,170 posts)Heat took out the two teams with better records than the Nuggets, so it's interesting seeing Nuggets fans saying Nuggets in 4.
