Nikola Jokic captures 2nd straight NBA MVP title

DENVER (AP) — Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic earned a second straight NBA Most Valuable Player trophy Wednesday to become the second consecutive international player to win two in a row.

The 27-year-old from Sombor, Serbia, averaged 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists to take home MVP honors. Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo — who hails from Greece — earned the title in 2019 and 2020.

International players finished 1-2-3 in this year’s MVP voting. Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid, who led the league in scoring average, finished runner-up and Antetokounmpo was third. Devin Booker of Phoenix wound up fourth.

The ball is in Luca’s hand every trip. I like Devin, but I’d have to put Luca ahead of him.
I’m good with the order of the first 3. Missing Murray & Porter, Denver would be a lottery team without Jokich. That may be true of the Sixers without Embiid, too.

Personally I’d rather have Booker and Paul than those centers but Luka is really a MVP for the Mavericks.

We see him posting up big guys & they can't outmuscle him.
He's 3rd all time in playoff points before age 23. He's behind Wilt & Michael. Pretty good company.
Booker has a slightly higher effective shooting percentage, but Luka has better stats in every othed category.
Booker has one less turnover per game, but in 1 fewer minute & he has the ball less often.
Devin is a scary scorer, but Luka is a game changer & he's younger.
One thing i like is him saying he's never starting a season out of shape again. Learned fast.
