One college softball player recently proved that she is truly in a league of her own.
Hope Trautwein, a senior at the University of North Texas, became the first player in NCAA Division 1 softball history to throw a perfect seven-inning game, with 21 strikeouts in a row.

Pitcher Hope Trautwein Throws A Perfect Game Of All Strikeouts

It's a rare feat in baseball or softball to pitch a "perfect game." That happens when no opponent reaches base not by a hit, or a fielding error, or a walk.
But pitcher Hope Trautwein of the University of North Texas made history on Sunday by pitching a game more than perfect. Through all seven innings, she struck out every single one of the 21 batters she faced from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
"I guess it's never been done before so it doesn't have a name," she told NPR's Morning Edition.
The NCAA said Trautwein, who hails from Pflugerville, Texas, is the first pitcher in NCAA Division I softball history to strike out every batter in a seven-inning perfect game. It's also the first perfect game in the history of the North Texas team.
"I don't really know what else to call it. Never seen anything like it. Don't know if I ever will," North Texas head coach Rodney DeLong said.

(57,250 posts)1. Amazing. I don't recall ever hearing of it being done before on any level.
The rest of the team got the day off...except the catcher.

(37,665 posts)4. There is a single 27-strikeout game on record
Ron Necciai pitched a 27-strikeout game for a Pittsburgh Pirate farm team in 1952. He made it to the big game that same year, I assumed because of that performance, played one year, then got drafted into the US Army.
He's 88 years old and looks good. It would be fun to get a photograph of the two of them together.

(2,239 posts)2. North Texas is also the last team to beat Oklahoma.
Oklahoma is 30-0 this season so far and ranked No. 1 in ALL the polls. Looking through the rest of their schedule, there is a real possibility that they might go through their whole regular season without losing a single game. That would be about as incredible as pitching a 21-strikeout perfect game. North Texas must be a pretty good team.
