I've always wanted a group response to this poem.

Feel free to tear it apart. I wrote it in high school, and now am in college so I won't take it personally.
A conversation with my mother about the wars we were in at the time inspired me.

Fields drown in blood and flesh

As their hearts are torn with sorrow

Dream linger through the valley of death

With no hope for tomorrow

I will hold my head up high

Salty Tears wipe clean the blades

Of those who once were strong

Silence burns their tortured souls,

They remember whom they've wronged.

I will hold my head up high.

Burning bodies dust the meadow,

Caked in sweat and soot,

Soldiers cry as they pass

Bleeding men on foot.

I will hold my head up high

Heroes fall to their knees,

They begin to lose their minds.

No faith could save their dying souls,

As they cross their enemy’s line.

I will hold my head up high.

My favorite part:

"Burning bodies dust the meadow,

Caked in sweat and soot,

Soldiers cry as they pass

Bleeding men on foot."
