What are you reading this week of July 31, 2016?

World of Trouble, the final book in The Last Policeman trilogy by Ben H. Winters. I am so glad I got both books so that I was able to go right into the third as soon as I finished the second. The suspense is really building.

3. Started "Coyote Waits" by Tony Hillerman

Chronologically one of the middle Leaphorn / Chee books. I'm enjoying this trip to New Mexico. About 100 pages in... So far, so good.

4. Still reading Black River by S. M. Hulse, but I am so tired by

the time bed-time rolls around that I only read a few pages before I slide off into dream time.

This summer is so busy, what with cat rescue (it's kitten season for a few more months) and canning tomatoes from the garden. Oh well, I can sleep and read during the winter months.

5. Just finished "Sisterland" by Curtis Sittenfeld.

Quite good.

And I've gotten a good start on The Assistants by Camille Perri and it's a total hoot. I'll probably finish it tomorrow as it's a quick read.

6. Finished The Assistants,

I'm now reading The Sudden Appearance of Hope by Claire North.

OMFG! Read this book. Read all of Ms. North's earlier books, The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and Touch.

Okay, I have a small confession to make. Claire North, in reality Catherine Webb, won a major award at the Campbell Conference a couple of years ago, and I was there, and was quite entranced with Ms. Webb. Plus I've read , Touch.

The Sudden Appearance of Hope is her most recent book. So far, and I'm about halfway through, it's extremely good.

Catherine Webb (Claire North) has a very original take on certain things, and while there are certain flaws in her books and her plotting, they can be overlooked for the sheer enjoyment aspect of her writing.

By Beatriz Williams. Set in the 1930s. Love, loss, anti-Semitism, friendships betrayed and a hurricane.
